Purrkey day with your Cat 🦃✨

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, appreciation and creating lasting memories with loved ones. As a cat owner, nothing warms your heart more than the love, companionship, and undeniable entertainment that your feline friends bring into your life. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I'd love to share some heartwarming ways to celebrate the holiday with our cats and show them how truly thankful we are.

1. Pumpkin Treats for All

Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without the aroma of pumpkin pie filling the air. While our cats can't have the traditional dessert, they can still savor the taste of pumpkin in a feline-friendly way. I remember last year, as I was preparing the pumpkin pie, my mischievous cat Obie jumped up onto the countertop and started batting at the spoonfuls of pumpkin puree. I couldn't resist his enthusiasm, so I gave him a tiny portion mixed into his wet food as a Thanksgiving treat. He licked his whiskers with delight; ever since it has become a cherished part of our Thanksgiving traditions.

Did you know pumpkin is also a purrfect stomach problem remedy for cats? The fiber in pumpkin can reduce excess moisture in your cats digestive tract and remedy diarrhea. Give it a try if you're having issues with loose stool in your cat! In the past I've bought plain, canned pumpkin and given just a spoonful alongside their regular meal until the symptoms subsided.

2. Purrfect Pictures

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to capture precious memories with our cats. Just like us, they can join in on the holiday spirit by donning festive collars or adorable bandanas. Last year, I dressed up Obie and Swayze in little turkey-themed attire, and the photos I captured were simply priceless. They looked too cute for words! Whether you use a professional camera or your smartphone, snapping pictures of your fur babies enjoying the holiday season will bring a smile to your face for years to come.

3. Quality time together

The holiday season can be a whirlwind of activities, from family gatherings to hours spent in the kitchen, preparing a delicious feast. However, it's essential not to forget to set aside some quality time to bond with your cats, too. Obie and Swayze never fail to remind me of this. One Thanksgiving, as I was caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day, Obie approached me, pawing at my leg and meowing insistently. It was then I realized I hadn't given him the attention he deserved. I quickly set aside my tasks and cuddled up with him and Swayze on the couch, as we watched a heartwarming holiday movie together. It's so important that we continue to bond with our kitties at even the busiest times! Their purring and contentment melted away any stress I had, reminding me of the simple joy of spending time with the ones we love – even those with fur.

4. Giving Back

Thanksgiving is not only a time to appreciate our blessings, but also an opportunity to extend our care and compassion to those who may be less fortunate. As we reflect on the undeniable love our cats bring into our lives, we can be inspired to give back to others, including our furry friends. Each year, I make a donation to a local animal shelter on Obie and Swayze's behalf. It's a small gesture, but it warms my heart to know that we are helping other cats in need, ensuring they experience the love and care they deserve during the holiday season.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the unconditional love and joy that Obie and Swayze bring into my life. They have a knack for making me smile, even on the toughest days, and I am incredibly blessed to have them as part of my family.

At Coastal Cat Care, we are not only grateful for the opportunity to care for your cats, but we are also thankful for the relationships we've developed with you, our wonderful clients. We hope that these Thanksgiving tips and stories about Obie and Swayze inspire you to embrace the holiday season with your cherished feline companions. From our family to yours, we wish you a Thanksgiving filled with love, warmth, and unforgettable moments. Happy Thanksgiving!
